Akuna

'Inspiring Bold Leaders'

The Client

In 2011, Akuna Capital opened its first office in the heart of Chicago, and has opened additional offices in Sydney, Shanghai, and London. Akuna is an innovative trading firm with a commitment to collaboration, data-driven solutions, and cutting-edge technology.

The Problem

Because of Akuna’s rapid growth, there was a need for strong managers who could lead bold teams. “The most valuable part of working with The Turk Group has been the simple and actionable techniques to leading teams,” Ryan Duckworth, Akuna’s Chief Executive Officer in the US said. “Positive feedback about the learnings from Manager Essentials is consistent. Having some consistent techniques across our managers makes for more efficient communication, allows for Individual Contributors switching teams to feel comfortable in management styles, and promotes a consistent management overview style.”

The Solution

Akuna has worked with The Turk Group for the past three years through one-on-one coaching and the Manager Essentials courses. “As we welcome new managers to our team, there is a constant demand for the opportunity to go through the program with The Turk Group,” Duckworth explained. “Many of our senior leaders have also taken the time to work directly with The Turk Group in curated one-on-one sessions to address specific challenges they are facing.”

The Results

“The Turk Group has helped lead us through several significant transitions over the past 18 months, particularly through direct conversations with our Senior Leadership team,” Duckworth said. There have been positive results not only for senior leadership, but for up and coming managers as well. “For newer managers, The Turk Group has worked to accelerate progress in tackling the new challenge of managing people,” explained Duckworth. “We value transparency and collaboration; our sessions with The Turk Group have helped promote those values as we learn about working with other teams, providing feedback, and how to have difficult conversations.”
